Bald Eagle Haliaeetus leucocephalus These magnificent raptors are recognized by their white-feathered heads and tails, a sign of maturity that is not reached until approximately five years of age. Although they are large birds, typically with wingspans up to 7.5 feet, they weigh only 8 to 12 pounds. Bald eagles are found only in North America. They build their large nests high in treetops close to bodies of water. Their diet consists of fish, waterfowl, other birds, turtles, small mammals and even carrion. Adoption Fee: $500 |
