Eastern Screech Owl

The Eastern screech owl is a small, nocturnal, woodland owl. There are two color morphs, or phases -- a gray phase and a reddish-brown phase.  Eastern screech owls hunt from dusk to dawn, with most hunting being done during the first few hours of darkness. Unlike other owl species which generally hunt from a perch, screech owls will search for food mainly while in flight. They will also capture flying insects on the wing. They even like to eat cockroaches!
