On Valentine's Day sow seeds of nasturtiums, sweet peas and English peas. Sow seeds directly from the packet, one inch deep into well-worked, loamy garden soil. Clean and inspect bird houses around your property. Eastern Bluebirds will scout for nesting sites this month, and Purple Martins begin to arrive from their Winter homes in South America. Celebrate Georgia's Arbor Day on the third Friday of this month by planting a tree. The planting hole should be as wide as possible, but no deeper than the root ball of the transplanted seedling. Good native landscape trees include Sourwood, Sassafras and Georgia Fever Tree.
